Last year’s baseball team gave the JJ Nation a season to remember. Now the Jags find themselves in a similar spot, facing Corpus Christi Carroll, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year. Johnson is looking for a new end to this season, and they’ve got state on their minds.
“We can win, and we’re gonna win,” Coach Kelly Parker said.
It will be no easy task, as Carroll has a likely first round pick taking the mound for them in Courtney Hawkins.
“Yeah they’re good, but they have the same team they did last year for the most part. We’ve gotten a lot better,” Parker said.
Carroll always has a solid team, and have established themselves as a perennial powerhouse in the baseball spectrum. Johnson looks to establish themselves in that manner as well, and a win in this series against Carroll might do just that.
“A win for us would be huge, especially against such a renowned school like Carroll,” junior outfielder Mark Whitehead said.
The date is set and the team is getting hyped for what is the biggest series Johnson baseball has played to this day.
“This is the farthest in the playoffs we’ve ever been, but we’re not done yet,” Whitehead said.
