The Johnson Jaguars girls basketball season is about 20 games in and the girls are having a solid season thus far sitting at a 14-9 record. Their most most recent game was a loss to rival Reagan, where the rattlers were just too physical for the Jags. Their district record is .500, to be more specific they are 3-3 in a very tough district. Like any basketball team, they have pre season and mid season goals. For the Jags they have two major ones, win district and make playoffs.

“Expectations are what they always are start from point A and get to point B, get the girls to become better passers, ball handlers and shooters,” coach Randy Evans said, “As for our

goals they are to win district and get into playoffs and once were in playoffs anything can happen and we know that.”

The Jags are one of the youngest teams in the district this year with only 3 seniors, and where two have never played on the varsity level before this season. The competition in 26-5a will be tough for these young players, key preparation and practice is essential.

“We are a younger team, we had 6 or 7 seniors last year and only have 3 this year and only have one returning player that was a junior last year,” Evans said.

Overall the Jags have had a very satisfying start to the season but anything short of playoffs will be a bust. When playoff basketball rolls around they will be expecting these tough, non-district opponents due to their beginning of the schedule.

“I try to get a tough non-district schedule and we no doubt had one and play quality teams not just automatic wins. We did have an easy game or two but for the most part you need to have a tough non conference schedule because long term that will make a big difference for the maturity of the team,” Evans said.
