Disney announces new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, live-action TV show

Disney announced that Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson, will be tackling a new Star Wars trilogy. Along with this exciting news for fans of the series, a live-action Star Wars TV show was announced as well. This is a sign from Disney, showing that they’re committed to the Star Wars franchise and will continue to expand on it for years to come. Even though the public hasn’t seen the Last Jedi yet, it seems that it will be on the same level as Empire Strikes Back. After all, they wouldn’t just give Rian a whole trilogy to make if the Last Jedi was bad. He promises that the new trilogy will be separate from the current nine movie saga. The new trilogy will not focus on the Skywalker saga, it will be its own separate thing.

“Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored,” Disney said in a statement.

There’s an unbelievably huge range of possibilities for Rian to take the new trilogy in. From 200 years past the current trilogy to 200 years before the prequel trilogy. It could be anything in between as well. Hopefully that Rian will take this new trilogy to the Old Republic era, with the Sith Empire and the constant clash between the Jedi and Sith on basically a daily routine. Even if he doesn’t, he still has a range of possibilities from Legends material. From the intergalactic invaders, the Yuuzhan-Vong, to the new republic era.

“He’s a creative force, and watching him craft ‘The Last Jedi’ from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career,” Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy said of Johnson. “Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

As for the new live-action show, it could be anything. Lucasfilm has had a large track-record of animated StarWars Tv shows. The most popular ones being the 2008 to 2014 Clone Wars and the 2014 to present Star Wars Rebels. It’s a mystery as to what the new series could be about, though a few ideas to seem to be high on the Star Wars fan base. It could possibly be about the infamous and fan-favorite Boba Fett, the criminal world of Star Wars, or even about a fan-favorite sith from Legends Material, Darth Revan. If it does explore the origin of Darth Revan, the show would also have to include the infamous Mandalorian Wars.

Fans can and will speculate for ages about what the new trilogy and show will be about. Though, Disney had rarely disappointed in what it’s delivered so far for Star Wars. Needless to say, it won’t disappoint.
