Senior boys prepare for volleyball tournament

by Isai Carmona | sports editor

The first ever senior boy’s King of the Court volleyball tournament will be on March 31. Eight teams will face off in a single elimination tournament.

Senior class officer Anna-Claire Frolichstein, alongside others, brought the idea to the table this past February.

“King of the Court is a spin-off of our Powder Puff game where we have girls playing football, but rather than that, we are going to have boys playing volleyball,” Frolichstein said. “We took typically gendered sports and flipped it over.”

Schools around the country hold this same tradition for their students, so seeing it incorporated here is not so out of the ordinary.

“My friend goes to Champion High School and they do something like this every year, and so whenever we were starting to plan the end of year senior events,” Frolichstein said. “The other class officers and I brought it to Mrs. Cobb as an idea for our school to do, since we already do Powder Puff.”

Although this event is exclusively for senior boys, all students are welcome to attend. Other programs have also decided to help out.

“The senior girl volleyball players will be acting as coaches of our teams, as well as some past volleyball players that are no longer in the program,” Frolichstein said. “We are also going to have junior NHS members help out with concessions, and some other volunteers for reffing and score-keeping.”

The senior class officers have plenty of events for the senior class to enjoy before taking their next step in life.

“For the rest of this year we have our senior field trip, our volleyball game, our Powder Puff game,” Frolichstein said. “Then we will finish off the year with a senior sunset: that will be a little more of an event, we will have games and more activities.”
