Boys soccer comes to an end

Boys soccer comes to an end
Johnson boys soccer had their best season yet and are ending with their first play-off run.

The boys soccer season came to an end as their best season yet, after making it to the playoffs for the first time ever. They came up short in their first playoff game against New Braunfels in a nail biter that went to a shoot out. The Jags fought hard throughout the game, but were not able to come out on top.

“I think that we could have stepped up our defense and we should have made more of our penalty kicks,” sophomore Devlin Gilligan said.

The Jags district record was 6-5 and they were the number three team in district, behind the powerhouse schools Reagan and Churchill. The Jags were unable to pull off the upset in their first playoff game, but gave New Braunfels a run for their money. The final score was 1 to 0 in the shoot out.

“One of our goals this season was to make the playoffs for the first time and we were able to do that by being in the top four in district,” Gilligan said.

The Jags look to provide back to back playoff trips as preparations for next year begin soon. Coming off the tough defeat in the playoffs this year, the motivation to overcome the first round next year will be high.

“We played really well this year and we were able to make the playoffs, which was one of our seasonal goals. We were able to accomplish that by executing well all season,”coach Mike South said.
