A movie theater but this one is unique!

Most movies are now either action or romance; those are the two major money making genres of film. But what about the other genres, where do those go. They’ll more than likely end up at the Bijou at one time or another.

The Films That seems like an obvious reason to like a movie theater but these aren’t the ordinary mainstream films. You won’t find Killer Joe or Moonrise Kingdom at any other theater in town but if you want to expand your horizons beyond the norm – this is the theater to go to.

The Atmosphere The theater itself was built in the seventies and has barely been altered since then. The theater was originally a regular theater until the nineties when the independent film craze surrounded Pulp Fiction and others, it began to show more indie films rather than mainstream. Since then, it shows classic films, local indie films, and independents regularly and indefinitely.

Classic Film ShowcaseThis reason in particular makes the Bijou stand out among all other typical theaters which is The Classic Film Showcase. Every Thursday night at seven the the theater classic films such as Psycho, The Godfather, The Maltese Falcon, Citizen Kane, Young Frankenstein, and so on.

Moonrise Kingdom, one of the many movies shown at the Bijou.

The Crowd For most people who’ve never seen a crowd with an interactive crowd, it’s certainly an experience. In most theaters people are quiet, respectful, and laugh in appropriate intervals, but at the Bijou it’s whole different crowd. Depending on your film choice, it could go from mild to rampant. In some cases the crowd would be such a select people that they would throw theater regulations out the window. People will yell, throw popcorn, laugh whenever they want to, the list goes on. It is certainly worth checking out if you’ve never seen anything like that before.

The 48 Hour Film Project The Bijou is home to the 48 Hour Film Project, sponsored by Tru TV,NAB show and Movie Magic Screenwriter. The way the festival works is that you have to pay 150 dollars to enter, you then go to pick your genre you are given a line, prop and a name you must incorporate somewhere. Then you have 48 hours to write, shoot, and act in a short film and turn it in, after that all the films will be screened at the Bijou. It is the thing that sets it apart from any other theater, it is a very unique gathering of people and is a great event.
