MTV movie awards predictions

by Sumner Strickland | staff writer

On April 14th all the movies that got pushed to the side during Oscar season have a chance at winning on the MTV movie awards. Rebel Wilson will be hosting, being a perfect choice and, like always, won’t disappoint.

Best Villain

Who Should Win: Leonardo DiCaprio for Django Unchained. All the other villains are pretty bad, but Calvin Candie is evil, and no other villain this year could match the intensity that DiCaprio brought to screen. Especially the nerve frying dinner scene, which I won’t go into detail about but not just anyone is going to match it.

Who Will Win: Tom Hardy for The Dark Knight Rises. Now, I will admit Tom Hardy was a fantastic Bane and I’m a big Tom Hardy fan to begin with. But, it’s a pretty standard villain. He hits all the points normal villains do, yet he doesn’t make any memorable moments except for the mask. But, that being said he’s by no means a bad villain; just not the best.

Best Fight

Who Should Win: It’s hard to pick between either The Avengers or Django Unchained. Django’s fight is great because of the emotional intensity that’s been built up for such a long time, until it reaches the breaking point exploding into untamed Quentin Tarantino violence. But then you also have The Avengers which also has fight built up over a long time, and is just an incredible directing achievement. So it’s hard to pick, but if I had to pick just one, I’d go with The Avengers.

Who Will Win: The Avengers, for reasons listed above.

Best on Screen Duo

Who Should Win: Leonardo DiCaprio and Sam Jackson, no question. It’s not even a contest, they are both at the peak of their powers as actors and I believe it’s safe to say that nobody else has a chance.

Who Will Win: Answer provided above.

Breakthrough Performance

Who Should Win: Quvenzhane Wallis for Beasts of the Southern Wild. As far as breakout performances go this is the definition, and on top of that she should’ve been recognized at the academy, even if it was just a supporting role.

Who Will Win: Ezra Miller for Perks of Being a Wallflower. First off this isn’t even his breakout performance, his breakout performance was We Need to Talk about Kevin alongside Tilda Swinton. So automatic disqualification right there and honestly his performance is not in the same caliber with Wallis’s. But he has the upper hand due to people actually went to go see Perks, so that one could just be a popularity contest.

Best Female Performance

Who Should Win: Anne Hathaway for Les Miserables. This is almost no contest, people can hate on Anne Hathaway all they want at some point they have to admit that her performance in this movie is spectacular.

Who Will Win: Anne Hathaway, she’s too good to overlook.

Who Could Steal: Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook, she displays true chops in Silver Linings, proving that she’s a real actress, not just a teen pop movie star. She has a good chance and it could go either way.

Best Male Performance

Who Should Win: Daniel Day Lewis for Lincoln. Come on, it’s Daniel Day Lewis as far as acting goes no one has a chance at beating him.

Who Will Win: Daniel Day Lewis. It feels kind of one sided, but he’s the best. You never know though, MTV could go a different way. If they do it’ll either be Ben Affleck or Bradley Cooper that take home the award.

Best Hero

Who Should Win: Robert Downey Jr. for The Avengers. Let me just point out that he is Iron Man. That is all that needs to be said.

Who Will Win: Either Christian Bale or Robert Downey Jr. Christian Bale has a good chance since it is the last Batman movie for him (or so they say) but Robert Downey Jr. is always awesome, so once again it could go either way.

Best Movie of the Year

Who Should Win: Django Unchained, I’ve gone over this again and again so I won’t go on and drown it with details, all I’ll say is this is the best movie of the year.

Who Will Win: Ted or Django Unchained, both movies were tied with votes when they were being nominated, but Ted doesn’t deserve to win in a million years. No matter how much I like Seth Macfarlane, Ted should’ve never been nominated to begin with. (Should’ve been 21 Jump Street instead)
