Fall season promises more substantial fare at the box office

Fall+season+promises+more+substantial+fare+at+the+box+office

By Cameron Tejeda | staff writer

Now that the summer blockbuster season is out of the way, it’s time to focus on fall when movies offer something more substantial. Here’s just a sampling of what you’ll see this season.

September 9: Sully

Sully is based on the true story of a man who performed an emergency landing in the Hudson River. It’s directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Tom Hanks, so the movie should be a good one. Check out the trailer for Sully.

September 23: The Magnificent Seven

The talent involved in this movie alone should be a reason to get excited. The Magnificent Seven is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and Vincent D’Onofrio. It’s about seven outlaws who are hired by the townspeople to protect them. Here’s the trailer.

October 14: The Accountant

Ben Affleck plays an accountant who works for criminals while J.K. Simmons plays an agent trying to catch him. The movie is directed by Gavin O’Connor, the guy who directed Warrior, and also stars Jon Bernthal and Anna Kendrick. The Accountant is definitely a movie that should be on your radar. Check out the trailer.

October 21: Jack Reacher Never Go Back

Tom Cruise is back as an ex-military investigator for the second Jack Reacher film. The first movie was a solid action-thriller, and Cruise is always great in these type of roles. I am looking forward to see if they can take this movie to another level this time around. Here’s the trailer.

October 28: Rings

The Ring (2002) was a great horror/mystery movie, and now a new film based around it is coming out. The plot is basically about a video that if you watch, you’ll die in seven days. Rings will probably be nothing special, but maybe we’ll get a solid horror flick. Check out the  trailer for Rings.

November 4: Doctor Strange

The latest Marvel movie will star Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. I don’t know much about this character, but I’m interested to see how this movie fits in the MCU. The film also has other great actors like Mads Mikkelsen, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Check out the trailer now.

November 4: Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge follows an army medic played by Andrew Garfield in World War II. The movie is directed by Mel Gibson who also acted in and directed Braveheart, so I am super pumped for his new movie. Hacksaw Ridge trailer is available now.

November 11: Arrival

Arrival is about a linguist who is brought on board by the military to understand an alien craft. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) so I am already anticipating something great. The film also has the acting talents of Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. Check out the trailer.

December 16: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

It’s Star Wars. Do I really need to explain why you should be excited? This new movie takes place before Episode 4 and is about the rebels stealing the Death Star plans. One of the best villains ever, Darth Vader, is back and will also play a role in the film. The Rogue One trailer is available now.
