Spiking the ball over the net, senior Rachel Morse instructs the rest of the team while preparing for playoffs. With all the district games behind them, the volleyball team has earned 3rd place in the district events.
“I think that this team has a really good shot if everyone shows up we can take a lot of big teams down and upset a lot of people. I think a lot of people underestimate us so I think we can use that to our advantage and just come out and surprise people right off the bat. That should help us going into the second and third rounds.” Morse said.
With a recent win against Madison with a 3-2 score on Oct. 23, it has made Johnson 3rd in districts, leaving the team feeling confident for the upcoming playoffs.
“We hope to finish third in district and see who we will play in the playoffs, but we’re really excited for and looking forward to it. We have had some setbacks with injuries, but overall it’s been a very successful season.” coach Jim Feicht said.
Despite injuries and losses that have occured this season, the volleyball team will be ready for playoffs.
“We have been doing really good. We’ve been working hard a lot of practices. Some Saturday practices. It has all been about strength and basically working hard” junior Julianna Chavez said.
The volleyballs team biggest competitor this year will be O’Connor and Brandeis, but Johnson already has a lead over Brandise, beating them once before.
“Going into playoffs we are facing a tie in the other district that we play against so we don’t know who we are playing yet. We will play either O’Connor or Brandeis from northside. Both teams present a lot of challenges for us, but we feel we can be successful against both teams as well. We already beaten Brandise once and we feel we match up really well with O’Connor” Feicht said.
