Johnson swim season has just ended, and the Jags are coming of another very solid season. Finishing in third place in district for four years in a row is extremely good for being in such a competitive

district. The Jags wanted to be in front of that third place spot but at the end of the season, that is where they finished. Coming into this season, the Jags had set goals to win the district and send as many swimmers as possible on to the regional finals.

“I set goals with the help of my coaches, one of them was to make it to regionals and I put hard work in at practice and try to get extra workouts in on my own,” sophomore Nathan Coppock  said

They finished in third and next years preparations will have to change so they can overcome that third place spot. However, they did have many athletes qualify for regionals. In order to become the best possible swimmer, preparations and motivation are key.

“Having good technique is probably the biggest key to becoming a good swimmer, listening to you coaches and working hard is also what you need to do,” Coppock said.

Being able to set the bar high and having goals to accomplish is key when wanting to win district. There were also four records set through the course of the season.

“At practice I always work hard and practice technique staying conditioned is also very important,” sophomore Taylor Silvestry said.

Having one of the best seasons at Johnson, the swim team still looks to win district. Next year’s preparations will change, but not dramatically. This past pre-season the goals were to win the district and that goal is still unaccomplished. Overcoming the district will not be easy, being in such a tough district. They did, however, have three events in which a swimmer got first in district. The final stats of this season was four broken records, five individual letterman, three events which won district, and over ten regional qualifiers. so the success for the Jags was very good this season.

“Coming into this season our goals were to finish first in district as well as have as many athletes as we could go on to state at the end of the season we placed third, but we’re able to send many off to regionals,” Coach Holland said.
